ROOM MEASURING BASICS

 Tools you will need: 

 

Step 1:  Draw the shape of the room from a bird's eye view.

Step 2:  Measure the room length, width and height of ceiling.

Step 3:  Draw in any doors, windows, or openings, making sure to measure:​​

  • From the wall to the inside of the casing, not the trim.​

  • The height and width of the doors and windows.

  • Distance between your floor and the bottom of the window sill.

  • The size of the trim around your doors and windows.

Step 3:  Draw in additional details, including appliances and built-in features such as:

  • Outlet/Switch locations

  • Radiator/floor vent placements and measurements

  • Fireplace/Mantel placement and measurements

  • Islands

  • Bump-outs or bump-ins

  • Stairs

  • Bay Windows

  • Wainscoting
